British Royal couple’s Platinum anniversary on Monday

A new portrait of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II with husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh was released to mark the 70th wedding anniversary of the Royal couple. They have planned a private dinner with family and friends at Windsor Castle while the bells of Westminster Abbey in London, where they married on November 20, 1947, will toll to mark the occasion.

Elizabeth II, who married her consort at Westminster Abbey on 20 November 1947, is the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum wedding anniversary. She is the nation’s longest reigning sovereign, having overtaken the record set by Queen Victoria. The 96-year-old newly retired duke is the longest serving consort in British history. Together they have celebrated the silver, golden and diamond jubilees of the Queen’s reign, and faced ups and downs, Biographers note.
