Former Indian PM Vajpayee hospitalized

The oldest living former Indian Prime Minister Vajpayee, 93, has been hospitalized for urinary tract infection. All India Institutes of Medical Science bulletin states that he is on injectable antibiotics and will stay in the hospital till his condition improves. A team of doctors are closely monitoring him.

Vajpayee retired from active political life in 2005. Reports further stated that he has "reduced kidney (he has one functional kidney) and lung function due to the infection. He underwent total knee replacement surgery in 2001. He suffered a stroke in 2009 which impaired his speech. His health has been a major source of concern and he is often confined to a wheelchair and fails to recognise people. He is suffering from dementia and long-term diabetes.
