Two Reuters media men sentenced to 7 yrs imprisonment

A Myanmar Court has sentenced two Reuters media men for seven year prison term for violation of State Secrets Act while conducting investigations over violence against Rohingya minority. It was alleged that they had been collecting evidence about the murders of 10 Rohingya men by the army in the village of Inn Din in northern Rakhine in September 2017.

The two Reuters journalists Wa Lone, 32 and Kyaw Soe Oo,28, are nationals of Myanmar. The case has been widely considered as a test of press freedom in Myanmar. The two men are married with young children. They have been in prison since their arrest in December 2017.
