Make Vinayaka Chathurthi idols of clay not of polluting materials: Madras HC


The Madras High Court has given guidelines on conducting Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations in public places in the city and directed the authorities to ensure that the idols installed temporarily by various organisations were made of clay and not of polluting materials such as plaster of paris. The organisers should also avoid using inflammable materials for construction of structures to house the idols.

Court also ordered that there should be a complete ban on sound emitting fire crackers between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Court made the orders after hearing two public interest litigation petitions. The First Division Bench comprised of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M. Sundar.
