Vaiko sentenced to one year imprisonment for sedition

Vaiko Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam

A special Court Judge J.Santhi has convicted MDMK General Secretary Vaiko of sedition for a speech he made in 2009 against Central Government and sentenced him to one-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10,000.

The sedition charge was filed against him in 2010 for his speech at the launch of his book 'I accuse' a translation ‘Nan Kutram Sattugiren’ at Rani Seethai Hall, Chennai on July 15, 2009. Thousand Lights police had registered a case under Section 124(A) of IPC.
