Opposition parties welcome TN cabinet's recommendation to release Rajiv murder convicts

TamilNadu-700-02

Major opposition parties in Tamil Nadu have welcomed the recommendation made by the Tamil Nadu cabinet to the Governor to order the release of the seven convicts in the former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Ghnathy assassination case.

DMK president M.K. Stalin said, "The Governor should immediately order the release of the seven, who have spent the last 27 years in jail, and bring joy to all Tamils."

PMK founder S. Ramadoss has observed that the Governor should not reject this resolution on any grounds, and demanded that he order the release of the seven convicts without giving rise to any other controversy over the decision.
VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan said, "It is also not necessary for the Governor to consult the Central government or [get] the President's assent for this. Hence, we hope he takes the right decision soon."
