JVP Trincomalee Organizer Arun Hemachandra has charged that there is a severe shortage of teachers in schools in the country. The government has failed its duty to resolve that issue. In such a context a sound education cannot be delivered to the young generation.

He made the criticism addressing the media in Trincomalee on Friday evening. He was addressing the media briefing held under the auspices of Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service association, Volunteer Teacher Welfare Association and the Voice of the People of the East.

Arun Hemachandra further stated that a government that fails to address educational issues of a society can hardly lead the country towards progress and prosperity. A number of volunteer teachers have complained that they had been discriminated and ignored when volunteer teacher appointments were made recently.
