A simple awareness programme was held at Trincomalee Vigneswara Maha Vidyalayam recently under the patronage of the Rotary Club to mark the "World Polio Free Day". The theme of the event was “Srilanka is Polio Free Nation”.
In her key note address, Trincomalee Vigneswara Maha Vidyalayam Principal Mrs Muralitharan praised the Rotary Club for their contribution in “Polio Free Srilanka & world”, which was Rotary’s one of the Great Achievement. She also appreciated the Rotarians involvement in improving Education & uplifting the vulnerable people.
Dr.E.G.Gnanakunalan – Director, Rotary Public Relation explained the Rotary involvement in eradicating Polio from Sri Lanka. He dwelt on how a sum of US $ 550 Million was collected and contributed towards the cause. He pointed out that up to now only 12 Polio cases were reported from Pakistan (7) & Afghanistan (5). He also pointed out that another Killer Disease “Malaria” has been eliminated from Sri Lanka and requested Younger Generation to do their best to eliminate “Dengue” from our mother nation.
Rotary Youth Chairman Vigneswaran thanked the Principal, Teachers & Students for their excellent cooperation.
