President declares open Biomass power plant in Trinco


President Maithripala Sirisena was the Chief Guest at the ceremony held to declare open the latest Biomass power plant of the Tokyo Cement Group in Trincomalee recently. This Rs. 2.5 billion plant by Tokyo Power will add 70 GW to the national grid. Agricultural resources are utilized to generate electricity at this plant.

Reformulate CTA to avoid torture, enforced disappearance: Sumanthiran to govt


Tamil National Alliance Spokesperson Parliamentarian and President’s Counsel M.A.Sumanthiran has urged the government to reconsider and urgently reformulate its proposals in the Counter Terrorism Act in the light of the fundamental need to avoid torture and enforced disappearance, prevent abuse and effectively investigate actual threats of terrorism.

Mahinda at Palestinian Embassy, signs book of solidarity


Sri Lanka Freedom Party Kurunegala Parliamentarian and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa went to the Palestinian embassy in Colombo and placed his signature on the book of solidarity as a mark of their support for the hunger-strike campaign of more than 1,800 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails. He was the former patron of the Sri Lanka-Palestine Solidarity Movement.
