Five scholars and artistes who have contributed immensely for the development of Tamil in Sri Lanka are to be conferred with Siva Thamil Chelvy Awards at a ceremony to be held on January 7 in Jaffna to mark her 92 nd birth anniversary. They are Emeritus Professor A.Sanmugathas, Dr. S.Anandarasa, Nathaswara Vidwan Balakrishnan, Pandithar T.Ponnambalavanar and Pandithai Mahadevy Pathmanathan.

An Agricultural Exhibition is to be held at the Sampoor Maha Vidyalayam under the patronage of the Eastern Province Fisheries and Agricultural Ministry between September 16 and 18. Opposition Leader R.Sampanthan will be the Chief Guest.
Prof. Ravindra Fernando, Chairman of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board and Senior Professor of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, University of Colombo wil deliver the 19th Nandadasa Kodagoda Memorial Oration at 5.30 pm on August 2 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. The theme of the memorial lecture is ‘Drug abuse in Sri Lanka – Its past, present and future’.
