Foundation stone laid for National Nephrology Specialized Hospital


Foundation stone for the National Nephrology Specialized Hospital in Pollanaruwa was laid at a simple ceremony held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena on Wednesday.

This gift from the People's Republic of China will be the largest kidney hospital in Asia. It will serve the needs of not only the kidney patients in the North-Central Province, but also all kidney patients in the country. The proposed hospital will provide services such as kidney transplant surgeries, blood dialysis services, clinical service, laboratory service and counseling service. The hospital consists a Basic Treatment Unit, Out Patients' Department, Wards with 200 beds to treat residential patients, 100 blood dialysis beds, surgeries with modern technology, two Intensive Care Units and a blood bank, reports say.

Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Sri Lanka Yi Xianliang Minister Rajitha Senaratne, Deputy Minister Faizal Kasim, Secretary to the Health Ministry Janaka Sugathadasa, Director General of Health Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Director of Polonnaruwa General Hospital Dr. Indika Sampath Kumara and others were present.
