SLFP MPs, Councilors supporting SLPP will face disciplinary actions: Samarasinghe

Ports and Shipping Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has warned that Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Members of Parliament or Provincial Councilors who extend support to Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) during the forthcoming Local Government polls will face disciplinary inquiries and also expulsion not only from the party but also from the posts they hold.

He was addressing the media at the SLFP Head Quarters recently. During his address, he said: "We will definitely win the upcoming LG elections even without the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. More people are gathering with the President Maithripala Sirisena than ever before.

It is illegal for the JO to support any party other than the SLFP. If they go and work for the victory of another party, that would be against the party Constitution. Therefore, we have to act against them. The door is still open. They can join President Maithripala Sirisena whenever they want and work to strengthen the SLFP.

If the JO members act against the SLFP and attempt to destroy, it is clearly against the party constitution. Therefore they cannot be in the SLFP and they cannot remain in Parliament or Provincial Councils."
