Be committed to healthy contest at the local poll: President


President Maithripala Sirisena has urged all members of the Executive Committee of the United People's Freedom to be fully committed to ensure a free and fair election during the forthcoming local government polls.

He has also urged them not to resort to character assassinations and violence. He was addressing a meeting of the UPFA held at the Presidential Secretariat on December 5. During his speech, he told the UPFA to choose candidates who are with a history of good conduct, who are free from fraud and who are imbibed with sound political vision since victory depends on the candidates.

Mahajana Eksath Peramuna leader Dinesh Gunawardene, UPFA General Secreary and Fisheries and Acquatic Resources Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, CWC General Secretary Parliamentarian Arumugam Thondaman and former Minister A.L.M. Athaullah representing National Congress also addressed.
