State Minister Dilan Perera has observed that the majority of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is in agreement with the Mahanayake Theros of the three Nikayas that the existing executive presidency with diminished powers should be continued.
He was addressing a media briefing at the SLFP office on July 13. He went on that the SLFP should work in cooperation with members of the Joint Opposition (JO) who were partial to the SLFP. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the joint opposition are agitating for a new constitution and the abolition of the executive presidency while the SLFP and Mahanayakas of three Nikayas want to retain the executive presidency and introduce reforms to the existing Constitution. The SLFP also wants to introduce electoral reforms.
