GMOA threatens to strike if Carlo is replaced

Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has issued a warning that it would launch a continuous strike if authorities take measures to replace Professor Carlo Fonseka as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) with the end of his tenure.

GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge has charged that the Health Minister has no mandate to remove the chief of the SLMC and that the Health Minister attempts to appoint a pro-SAITM activist for the SLMC chairman post.

Earlier, the GMOA suspended the strike following a request by Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith who pointed out that the strike by doctors during a dengue epidemic is inopportune and to review the decision on humanitarian grounds.
