Tamil National Alliance Leader R.Sampanthan has appealed to the Northern Province Chief Minister Justice Wigneswaran and the provincial councilors not to indulge in any activities that can be prejudicial to the interest of the Tamil community, that can jeopardize the present moves to find a lasting political solution. The unity of the Tamil people should not be shattered at this crucial hour. Rise above petty differences in the larger interest of the community.
He made the appeal while commenting on the impasse prevailing in the Northern Provincial Council. At the outset, Sampanthan explained that the current issue must be sorted out by the Chief Minister and the councilors themselves.
He stated that now that it has become a controversial issue, we would like to say that the Chief Minister could take action against ministers against whom charges are proved, but not against ministers whose charges are not proved at an inquiry held under his direction. These are matters that can be sorted out by the Council.
