Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has assured that the problems faced by the Tamil people will be resolved by the government.
He added that at the 2015 Presidential Election, we promised the North to provide solutions to issues such as the ownership of land, political prisoners and disappearances. However, the Yahapalana government is yet to fulfill these promises.
He was addressing the May Day held under the patronage of the National Democratic Party at the Chankiliytan Poonga in Jaffna. During his address he said: “The Government would take steps to solve the problems of the Tamil people before celebrating next May Day 2018. The people from North and and the South who were killed during the war belonged to the oppressed class. I always have demanded the Cabinet to solve the problems of the Tamil people.
There is a delay in fulfilling the promises that the Yahapalana government gave the Tamil people in the North and as a Cabinet Minister, I rally for Tamil’s rights in the Cabinet. At the 2015 Presidential Election, we promised the North to provide solutions to issues such as the ownership of land, political prisoners and disappearances. However, the Yahapalana government is yet to fulfill these promises.
I have called for a report containing statistics on all disabled people in the Northern Province. I have spoken with parents whose children have disappeared during war. I believe that all prisoners who cannot be charged based on the Criminal Code, should be released.
I rejected racism, casts differences and religious differences. He only respected humanity. I have done my best to solve the ethnic conflict through discussions and have travelled to the North on several occasions in the past, even when the war was in progress. I always wanted to share power and his struggle turned successful on January 8, 2015. The children from the South and the North should be provided with employment. Missing children should be found, lands should be returned to its rightful owners and political prisoners should be freed.”
Gamapaha MP Chatura Senaratne, Leader of the Movement Sudharshi Vijayakanth and many others addressed the event. Dr. Kapila Ranasinghe, SPC Managing Director Dr. Rumi Mohammad and many others were present on the occasion.
