Amidst a sad and sorrowful atmosphere, the funeral of 12 victims who died in the Meethotamulla tragedy was held at the Kolonnawa cemetery on Sunday. Meanwhile five unidentified bodies lie at the police mortuary.
Deputy Minister Harsha de Silva said all funeral expenses will be borne by the Governemnt.
The number of people killed in the collapse Meethotamulla tragedy rose to 26 on Sunday. It is expected rise as many people are still missing.
A section of the 300-foot garbage dump at Meethotamulla caught fire and collapsed destroying 78 houses and damaging 150.
228 families comprising 980 persons have been affected.
