Colombo High Court acquits Azath Sally

Azath Salley
Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja on Thursday, December 2 ordered to acquit and release former Western Province Governor Azath Salley from the case filed against him over a statement he made on March 9 this year.

He had been indicted by the Attorney General in connection with the controversial remarks he made detrimental to ethnic-religious harmony in the country.

Court made the order after hearing the submission made by the Defence Counsel Maithri Gunaratne that his client be acquitted in terms of section 200 of the Criminal Procedure Code without calling defence witnesses.
