Sirisena expresses regret over Cardinal’s remarks


The President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, former President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday expressed regret over the statement made by the Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith regarding his failure to prevent the Easter Sunday attack in 2019.

The former President was responding to a question raised by journalists after the General Assembly of the Sri Lanka Freedom Workers Union in Nawala.

The Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, speaking to media on Sunday following Easter services questioned whether the former President, who had neglected his responsibilities and went abroad despite receiving information that a terrorist attack was imminent, has any dignity to seek re-election leading a party.
