Kiriella raises concerns over appointment of ministerial committee

Kiriella

Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella has raised concerns over the appointment of five-member ministerial committee to look into the recommendations made by the Presidential Commission, which probed the Easter Sunday attacks. He was addressing a press conference.

He said: “This committee should have comprised senior reputed judicial officers instead of members of Parliament. We feel suspicious that the ministerial committee was appointed to actually amend the report. The objective of this committee would have been to see that some parts of the report, which refers to some in the present government, are removed. Even Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has expressed such a suspicion.

The evidence given by the wife of Zahran who masterminded the attack before the commission is vital as she had revealed from whom her husband received money. These details should not be deleted from the report. We urge the government to seek extradition from India the wife of the suicide bomber who blew himself up at the Katuwapitiya Church as she has more vital information on the attack.”
