UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene has stated that the United National Party had already initiated moves to form a broad alliance against the government for it was leading the island towards anarchy.
He made this observation addressing a group of UNP supporters at the UNP headquarters, Sirikotha recently. UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara, Assistant Secretary Anoma Gamage and Executive Director of Sirikotha Shamal Senarath were also present. Ruwan said:
“A mechanism will be put in place to bring all forces together, against the present Government, which is heading for anarchy within a short span of time after being elected by the people with an overwhelming majority. People no longer have faith in the Government. UNP is mobilizing the public against the Government at grassroots level.
The members of the Maha Sangha and Civil Society representatives who strove to make the present Government victorious at the last election have started criticizing the Government. The people are taken for a ride by the incumbent Government by giving promises which can never be realized. The popularity of the Government is on the wane.”
