Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris yesterday has stated that no monuments of any kind could be built within university premises under any circumstances without approval from the relevant authorities. The Jaffna University couldn’t be exempted from regulations pertaining to building of monuments.

He made this observation addressing the weekly media conference at the SLPP office in Battarmulla on Monday, Jan 11. Prof. Peiris said:

“As a government, we want to resolve the Mullivaikal War Memorial issues at the Jaffna University peacefully. We are not ready to give any opportunity to those who are trying to fish in troubled waters.”
