Lawyer Gallage files petition against 20A in the Supreme Court

Indika Gallage

Attorney at Law Indika Gallage residing in the Morontuduwa area filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, September 22 seeking the Court to issue a ruling that the ‘20th Amendment to the Constitution’ Bill is unconstitutional and that it should be passed by a two-thirds majority in Parliament and a public referendum.

It was filed through Attorney-at-Law Darshana Weraduwage. The Attorney General has been named as the respondent in the petition.

The petition argued that several clauses of the Bill which was tabled in Parliament Tuesday (22) had removed several provisions of the Constitution and it was essential to hold a referendum and obtain the consent of the people to remove or change such provisions affecting the sovereignty of the people.
