Elect SLPP to gain two thirds majority to build the country … Premier Mahinda

Mahinda Rajapaksa

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has appealed to the people to support the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna to gain the two-thirds majority to build our country for the betterment of future generations.

He made this appeal addressing an election rally in Nawalapitiya recently. Mahinda said:

“For the past five years, neither the country nor the people of the Kandy district were benefited by the so-called Good Governance government. It was due to the different political perspectives and constant conflicts and disputes of the two parties that represented the previous government.

In the last Presidential election, Gotabaya Rajapaksa was elected as President because the people needed a government and a Cabinet that represents the same party as the President. Only in such a context can the ‘Vision of Prosperity’ programme be successfully implemented to develop the country.

The UNP is now destroyed beyond repair. UNP MPs, former MPs, ministers as well as powerful party members have rallied together with the SLPP in support of the President’s ‘Vision of Prosperity’ programme. Eleven UNP MPs of the local government institutions in Nawalapitiya have also joined hands with us.

Both of the factions of the UNP are fighting to capture the power of the ‘Sirikotha’ headquarters rather than for the power of the Parliament. The irregularities and frauds that took place during the previous government are being revealed.

The committee appointed to probe into the alleged financial frauds that had taken place in the Central Cultural Fund (CCF) for the conservation of archaeological sites has revealed misuse of the fund. Needless to say, the country was handed over to individuals who did not have a proper plan for development.

Today the election has become a one-sided contest due to the division of the UNP. However, we will continue to work hard for our victory at the upcoming election.

I humbly request the people to support us to gain the two-thirds majority to build our country for the betterment of future generations.”
