Every successive govt failed to create an inclusive Sri Lankan identity … NPP candidate Azoor

Tuan Azoor

President of the Sri Lanka Malays Association attorney-at-law National list candidate of the JVP-led NPP Tuan Azoor has charged that every successive government fomed by both the United National Party and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party had failed to create an inclusive Sri Lankan identity.

He made the charge addressing the media at the party headquarters in Pelawatte recently. During his address, Azoor said:

“Sri Lankan identity has remained a distant dream as the two main parties and some minority parties are playing the race card to win elections and secure power. None of the governments led by the two main parties that ruled the country for the past 72 years had been able to create an inclusive Sri Lankan identity.

A pan-Sri Lankan identity was a sine qua non for national development, but none of the governments that ruled the country had given serious thought to achieving it, as their objective was only to grab power and then cling onto power at any cost.

Time has come to change this culture and people can initiate that change by voting for the NPP. Even at the present election none of the speakers of main parties have explained their plans to build the nation because they have no such plans much less a vision.

Only the NPP has explained how they will develop this country and lead it out of the problems it is confronted with."
