Indian envoy expresses deep shock at sudden sad demise of Arumugam Thondaman

India’s envoy to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay on Tuesday night expressed deep shock at the sudden and sad demise of Minister Arumugam Thondaman.

He tweeted: “Deeply shocked to learn of the sudden and sad demise of Hon Minister Arumugan Thondaman. Deepest condolences. Difficult to believe. Had met him today afternoon. A respected leader of SriLanka and Indian Origin Tamil community. Will be sorely missed. Praying for peace to his departed soul and strength to his family to bear this irreplaceable loss.”

On Tuesday afternoon High Commissioner Gopal Baglay had met with Minister Arumugam Thondaman and held discussions on bilateral cooperation for community development, including the ongoing Indian Housing Project in the plantation sector, and the landmark Jaffna Cultural Centre.
