Ranil urges government to reveal the economic situation in the island

Former Prime Minister, United National Party Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has urged the government to reveal the truth about the economic situation of the country to the public. Remaining silent will not find a way to come out of this dangerous situation.

He made this request in a statement issued to the media. Ranil said:

“People today have a hard time living. No money. No Jobs, There are no sources of income. From day to day, prices go up. The government is in a position where it is not possible to pay even Rs. 5,000 allowance, could not pay the festival advance for state workers. From all this It is clear the serious position of the economy of our country.

Sri Lanka which had stable rating in all three indicators in 2018 has fallen to an unstable situation now. Given the global economic conditions, the income from apparel and tourism will take a long time to come. We need to find ways to earn foreign income in the short term. The people, business and manufacturing establishments in the country need to be protected and given relief. The country needs to move forward without going bankrupt.

The last government report was presented on March 23. That is the report of the pre-election budget situation. However, the economic factors and the financial situation in March had completely changed. So the report has become outdated.

It is the responsibility of the government to submit a detailed report on the current financial situation in the country. A new economic framework should be formulated based on that report. This is not a problem of numbers. It is a question of the future of the people of this country. It's a question of living and life.”
