Work with task force for prevention of COVID-19 …. Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa invites all parties

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has called on all political parties represented in the last Parliament to work with the Task Force for the Prevention of COVID-19.

He made the appeal addressing the meeting of all political party leaders convened by Premier Mahinda Rajapakse at Temple Trees on Tuesday. All party leaders responded positively.

Party leaders including United National Party Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya commended the Government's efforts to combat COVID-19.

The proposal by certain political parties to reconvene the Parliament failed to receive support.

At the commencement of the meeting, Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe and Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi briefed the party leaders on the latest situation on COVID-19. National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 Head Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva too was present at the meeting, along with other officials.

Basil Rajapaksa, M.A. Sumanthiran, Douglas Devananda, Mano Ganesan, Palany Thigambaram, Rishad Bathiudeen, Rauff Hakeem, Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero, Vijitha Herath, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Mahinda Amaraweera, Udaya Gammanpila, Wimal Weerawansa, Dinesh Gunawardena, Prof. G.L. Pieris, and Senthil Thondaman were among those present.
