Govt must reveal its stance on MCC: Mujibur Rahman

Mujibur Rahman
The UNP Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman has demanded that the government must tell the people its stance on its stance on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) grant particularly in the light of differing statements made by its representatives on the MCC.

He was addressing a news conference at Sirikotha. During his press briefing, Mujibur Rahuman said:

The ministers in the present Government painted a completely different picture of the MCC to the public while they were in the Opposition and thereby adversely affected the UNF candidate’s chances at the November 16 poll.

Now we hear various Government representatives say the MCC is about 70 percent positive, whereas they ripped it apart before the election. The Government has a moral obligation to clarify this situation.

Any Government has to sign agreements with other countries and get along well with the rest of the world. Anyway, the MCC was to be presented to the Cabinet and then to Parliament for debate before the pact is signed. It was to be a transparent process.

Moreover institutions dealing with civil administration are taken under the Defense Ministry yet a Defense Minister is not appointed. The Immigration and Emigration Department which was under the Home Affairs Ministry is now taken under the Defence Ministry. Likewise the Meteorology Department, Police and many more are taken under the Defense Ministry.”
