Govt committed to promote indigenous medicine as part of wellness tourism … Piyankara Jayaratne on assuming duties

Indigenous Medicine State Minister Piyankara Jayaratne has observed that the government is fully committed to promote indigenous medicine as a part of wellness tourism to uplift the tourism sector in Sri Lanka.

He made this observation addressing the gathering after assuming duties at his Ministry on Sunday.

He said:

“Ayurvedic medicine will be developed as a part of wellness tourism. Adequate funds will be allocated to upgrade indigenous medicine in 2020. During the previous regime, stepmotherly treatment was given to ayurvedic medicine. Ayurvedic doctors will be given equal treatment. Indigenous medicine existed in the country for over 2,500 years. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has given instructions that the younger generation should be educated on Sri Lanka’s traditional indigenous medicine system using ancient books and scripts.”
