Rajitha Senaratne Bonding Sri Lankan Indian Relationship Solidarity Meet

Health Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne has stated that India-Sri Lanka bond that has existed from pre-historic times, that shares an umbilical link must be preserved for ever not only for the survival of both nations but for co-existence in the world at large.

He made this observation while addressing a seminar titled ‘Bonding Sri Lankan Indian Relationship – Solidarity Meet’ organized by the Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum at Ramada Hotel in Colombo recently. President of the Forum Alhaj N.M. Ameen presided.

Former member of the Indian Lok Sabha and President of the Indian Union Muslim League Prof. K.M.Cader presented a memento to Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne.

During his keynote address, Rajitha said:

"History has ample evidence to prove the relationship between the two nations. As per chronicles, our civilization benefited from the arrival of the Prince Vijaya some 2,500 years back.

Thereafter the history throughout indicates that there had been political, cultural, religious and social links between the two countries. Whenever there had been a clash between two rival princes here, help was sought from India and vice versa.

Indians worked closely with us when we achieved independence from the British. There had been close links between the leaders of Indian independence movement such as Sri Javharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi with our father of independence Prime Minister DS Senanayake.

We should work for further strengthening that relationship and I know that many media organisations including the Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum work for fostering that relationship."
