Flower Bud is the appropriate symbol of the proposed SLFP-SLPP alliance for presidential polls: Premjayantha

Susil Premjayantha

Opposition Parliamentarian Susil Premjayantha has observed that Sri Lanka Freedom Party must compromise on the symbol of the proposed coalition between SLPP and SLPP. Flower Bud would be the appropriate symbol for the presidential polls.

He was speaking to media at the Opposition Leader’s Office. During his address, Premjayantha said:

“The SLPP had agreed with the SLFP over policies and the basic policy framework had been finalized. The SLPP had been flexible on terms and policies proposed by the SLFP during coalition talks and therefore the SLFP should be willing to compromise on the symbol in the Presidential Election.

At the moment, we are getting ready for the Presidential Election. The flower bud symbol is the most popular symbol at the moment. Based on that notion, we suggested the flower bud should be the symbol for the Presidential Election.

We request the SLFP not to get hung up on the symbol and come to a decision to finalise the proposed coalition. There is no point of dragging these talks over something as trivial as a symbol. If we want to win, we have to work collectively.

The main focus should be the Presidential Election and the candidate and his policies would be the crucial factor, not the symbol.”
