Women are a formidable force that can defeat terrorism in the country: Saroja Paulraj

President of Women for rights organization Saroja Paulraj

President of ‘Women for rights’ organization Saroja Paulraj has observed that women are a formidable force that can defeat terrorism and extremism in the island and establish national unity. It is women who have been ordained with a universal responsibility by nature.

She made this observation addressing a seminar organized by ‘Women for Rights’ at Moratuwa under the theme ‘Let’s defeat extremism & build national unity’.

During her address, Saroja said:

“ No mother has the right to be communal as a mother gives birth to a child as a fruit of love. Love gives life but doesn’t sustain extremism. The Easter Sunday attack targeted the heart of our society and the bombs exploded piercing the hearts that were hurt in a 30-year war.

Religions are no longer spiritual factors but have become the tools of capitalism. Religion is marketed among those who raise the symbols of their religions and the competition that exists in selling goods could be seen among religions as well. Religious leaders have become very active brand marketers who compete to sell their brands. The reactionism that surfaces within the neo-liberal economy should be understood correctly as there are no isolated solutions to overcome the threat from such a system and added that the existing system should be completely defeated.

Renowned writer Sammani Wijesinghe, Rashmitha Fathima of Muslim Women’s Research Institute, the General Secretary of ‘Women for Rights Samanmalee Gunasinghe and the Member of its Executive Committee Ms Vishaka Abeyratna also addressed the seminar.
