State of Emergency extended for a month

The State of Emergency has been extended by another month with effect from Friday by an extraordinary gazette notification issued by President Maithripala Sirisena. The state of emergency has entered its third month. A State of Emergency was imposed throughout the country on April 22, following the Easter Sunday.

The proclamation, signed by the President, notes that the emergency was being declared “in the interest of public security, the preservation of public order and the maintenance of supplies and services essential to the life of the community.”
