Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Tuesday visited Kuliyapitiya where violence had erupted on the previous day. He also inspected the Hettipola mosque which was attacked by a mob.

Speaking to the press, Wickremasinghe stated that the Police and the Tri-Forces have been given powers to protect the peace and security of the country.

He added that unruly groups in the country must not be allowed to disrupt the forthcoming Vesak Festival celebrations. The government has deployed police security to necessary places in order to ensure that the Vesak festival is celebrated without any interruptions.

Thereafter, Premier Wickremasinghe chaired a discussion held at the Kuliyapitiya Police Superintendent's office with the attendance of Buddhist priests, politicians, security personnel and public representatives.
