Mahinda tight lipped on recommendation to release Rajiv muder convicts

Former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Monday told the Indian media that he would not comment on the recommendation made by the Tamil Nadu cabinet to release all the seven convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

He explained that it was an issue on which Indian government must take a decision. He said: "It is up to the Indian government to decide. I do not want to comment on that, it is a legal matter."

He was responding to the Indian media which sought his views on the Tamil Nadu cabinet's recommendation to release all seven life convicts in Rajiv assassination case. The seven convicts are Nalini, Perarivalan, Murugan, Santhan, Robert Pious, Jayakumar and Ravichandran.
