Prioritize electing an honest PM instead of seeking Presidential poll: President

President Maithripala Sirisena has urged all political parties and politicians to give priority to elect an honest person, someone who is aboveboard as Prime Minister instead of being preoccupied with the next presidential election.

He was addressing an SLFP rally in Nivitigala recently. He stated that the need of the hour was to find an honest person who upholds Sri Lankan values to function as the next PM. Nobody could decide when the next presidential election would be held as it was his prerogative to do so. He would not hold presidential polls even a day ahead of the scheduled date. Nowhere in the world has a President got his powers reduced in the manner he had done.
