Railway employees on sudden strike, train passengers stage protest


Railway employees including drivers, guards etc staged a sudden strike at 3 pm on Wednesday, August 8 demanding solutions to their grievances. Several trade unions in the railway sector have extended support. Several season ticket holders were severly inconvenienced.

Meanwhile, some train commuters perturbed over the strike launched a protest outside the Fort Railway station over the strike staged without any notice being given. They blocked one lane of the Olcott Mawatha. A tense situation prevailed in the premises at Maradana Railway station also.
