Rauff Hakeem accuses conspiracy to put off PC polls, indicates intention to seek JO's support to defeat the move

Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Leader Minister Rauff Hakeem has charged that certain sectors in the government are engaged in a conspiracy to put off the Provincial Council polls. He added that they would face the challenge and that they are determined to defeat such conspiracy at any cost.

He also indicated that they intend to hold talks with the Joint Opposition in the coming week to canvass their support for prompt polls.

He made this charge addressing an event held on Sunday, August 5. He stated that their party and the parties that represent the minorities urged the government to conduct polls under an electoral system that is fair by the minorities. A huge injustice has been done to the minorities under the present new electoral system.

He went on that instead of addressing this issue in a reasonable manner expeditiously, a conspiracy has been hatched to postpone the Provincial Council polls under the pretext of holding talks to resolve the issue. We will expose these tactics to the people.

He also warned that they would hold consultations with the Joint Opposition in order to ensure that the Provincial Council polls are held without inordinate delay.
