Foreign Exchange Bill not inconsistent with constitution: SC holds


Supreme Court has informed Parliament that the draft Foreign Exchange Bill was not inconsistent with the constitution.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya made this observation in Parliament. He intimated to Parliament that the Supreme Court conveyed to him that the bill could be presented in Parliament provided that minor errors contained there are rectified. The Speaker also said that the government could present the bill to the House in the future dates after amendments accordingly.

Earlier, MP Bandula Gunawardena had challenged the Special Determination petition challenging the bill titled “Foreign Exchange, 2017" in the Supreme Court.
