Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has appealed to the opposition parties not to infuse fear psychosis among the people in order to gain cheap political mileage.

He made this observation taking part in the Adjournment Motion debate on Tuesday.

During the debate, Kariyawasam said:

“The opposition attempts to force the closure of schools for cheap political mileage. The government has provided adequate security for schools after taking into consideration the reports of the Security Council and Intelligence Units. Student attendance in the Uva Province was 20 percent on Monday and this figure had increased to 40 percent on Tuesday. However, student attendance would increase in due course. Although the attendance of the students was very low on Monday, the number had increased by two fold on Tuesday in most of the areas. Conducting security checks at all schools countrywide were completed by Sunday and security personnel had been deployed to all schools.

Before seven days had lapsed, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said that he would contest the Presidential Election. He attempts to become the President over the bodies of the deceased. In the past, those leaders had given money to 28 extremists and to the Bodu Bala Sena too. Even the Pentagon was attacked and bomb attacks took place in France. Their intelligence failed too. That was the nature of global terrorism.”
