Current govt has failed to attract foreign investments: Namal Rajapaksa charges

Hambantota UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa has charged that the present government has failed to attract significant foreign investment to the country during the last four years.

He made this charge in Parliament during the committee stage debate on the expenditure heads of Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade and the Ministry of National Integration, Official Languages, Social Progress and Hindu Religious Affairs.

During his speech, Namal Rajapakse said:

“The economic gurus in the government had failed to perform though they boasted of their capabilities in the beginning. The government was misleading the public by fictitious assertions that it had attracted foreign investment to the tune of billions of dollars during the last four years. Contrary to the government claims, it had not been able to attract foreign investment worth even 20 million dollars, in 2017.

When this government sought a mandate, its leaders boasted of what they called their ability to attract investment worth billions of dollars. When they came to power, they said the economic growth rate would soar to 8.0. However, the CBSL Governor recently said that our economic growth was only between 3.1% - 3.2%.”
