Minister Palani Digambaran has urged the government to name Dickoya hospital after Mahatma Gandhi. 

He made the request during his address in the Parliament on the adjournment debate to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

He stated that though Gandhi is a son of the soil of India, though he fought to win independence for India, he has won the respect of the people of the world due to his theory and practice of Ahimsa. He travelled round the world as an emissary of non-violence.
He added that during his visit to Sri Lanka in 1927, he visited several parts of the hill country and met the people of Indian origin. We have Gandhi halls in Nanu Oya, Matale and Nuwara Eliya towns to mark his visit. The Gandhi Hall in Matale was renovated recently with Indian funds.
