Contempt of Court case against Padeniya fixed for inquiry

The application for contempt of Court, against Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya, President of the Government Medical Officers' Association has been fixed for inquiry on May 10 by the Court of Appeal.

Court made the order on Wednesday after over ruling the preliminary objection raised by the defence.

In this case two petitioners Gamini Viyangoda and Prof. Sarath Wijesuriya complain that Dr. Padeniya, insulted the dignity of the Court at a public rally, in Colombo when he referred to a Court of Appeal ruling on January 31, 2017. That ruling ordered the Sri Lanka Medical Council to provisionally register the SITAM medical graduates as Medical Officers of the state.

The bench comprised, Justice L.T.B. Dehideniya President and Justice Shiran Guneratne.
