Forgery case against Athanayake; Court allows accused to travel abroad


Colombo High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi allowed an application by accused Tisssa Athanayake to travel abroad between December 10 and December 30, 2017 to visit his daughter in Australia.

Tissa Attanayaka is indicted with forgery of documents bearing the signatures of Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe in the run up to the Presidential poll of January 8, 2015.

The Attorney General brought to the notice of the High Court of Colombo that President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe were unable to be present in Court as witnesses since they had to attend Parliament sessions.

The Additional Solicitor General Vasantha Navaratne Bandara, President's Counsel appeared for the Attorney General, while President's Counsel Kalinga Indatissa appeared for accused Attanayake.

Court put off the case for February 26, 2018.
