First witness Saraswthy Sivaloganathan, the mother of the deceased Vidya, stated that when she was shown the direction in which her daughter’s body was lying, she collapsed at once.
She was testifying before the Trial at Bar that heard the gang rape and murder of school girl Vidya. Her testimony was led by Deputy Solicitor General Kumar Ratnam.
She continued that May 13, 2015 was the day that Vidya attended school. Since it was her turn to clean the classroom that day, she left home early around 7 am. But she had not returned till 2.30 pm. Her son left home to look for her. He phoned her that the school was closed that day and that her friends had told him that Vidya had not come to school. We made searches and some friends advised us to report the matter to the police. We reported the matter to the police post on the way to Kurrikattuwan. The officials there told me that such complaints have to be lodged with the police station. When we made the complaints, the officers commented that students in this age group would have gone somewhere. It was after I stressed that she was not such a girl, they took down our complaint.
Since it was late and since it was raining, her son and she recommended the search the following morning. As were walking along the route one of those who accompanied us shouted and we rushed there and my son cried out ‘oh!. Amma Vidya’. On hearing this, she collapsed.
