Aloysius, Palisena granted bail

Palisena Alosiyas 700 01

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne released Owner of the controversial, Perpetual Treasuries Ltd. (PTL) Arjun Aloysius and his CEO Kasun Palisena on bail on Tuesday.

They were released on cash bail of two million rupees each and surety bail of eight million rupees each. Aloysius and Palisena are also barred from travelling overseas. They were ordered to hand over their passports to the court and report to the CID every Sunday between 9.00 a.m. and 12.00 noon

Delivering the Order for bail, Court observed that since there was no indication of when the chief suspect of the case, former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, would be apprehended, it was not acceptable for Aloysius and Palisena to be kept in remand any longer.

Court made the Order following applications for bail made by Defence Lawyers. They pleaded that the wives and children of their clients were not well and requested bail on humanitarian grounds.
