Appeal by Lalith Weeratunga fixed for support on Oct 12


The application of appeal filed by Lalith Weeratunga, former Secretary to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has been fixed for support on October 12 by the Court of Appeal.

Weeratunga appealed against his conviction by the High Court of Colombo of abusing state funds to the tune of Rs. 600 million to distribute sil redi in the run-up to the last presidential election and sentence to three years rigorous imprisonment.

The Court of Appeal bench comprised Justice Deepali Wijesundera and Justice Achala Wengappuli.
