Geetha’s nomination bad in law: DSG


Deputy Solicitor General Janak de Silva has submitted to the Court of Appeal that UPFA Parliamentarian Geetha Kumarasinghe’s nomination to contest the last Parliamentary election was bad in law since she had been a dual citizen of Sri Lanka and Switzerland at the time she handed in nominations to contest the last Parliamentary election. She had not clarified officially whether she had given up Swiss citizenship.

SLMC challenges CA order in SC


The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has appealed to the Supreme Court against the the Court of Appeal order of Jan. 31, 2017, making it mandatory for the SLMC to provisionally register, under Section 29/2 of the Medical Ordinance, the medical graduates of South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM), be set aside and ordering the Public Service Commission to permit SAITM medical graduate to register as public officers.

Five Indian fishermen remanded


Five Indian fishermen from Ramanathapuram who were apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy allegedly for fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters were remanded till March 17 by the Mannar Magistrate when they were produced before it.
